The Municipality of Valpaços, is composed of 31 parishes, has 553.10 km2, is limited to N and NO by the county of Chaves, S and SO, by the counties of Mirandela, Murça and Vila Pouca de Aguiar, E and SE by county of Mirandela and NE by the county of Vinhais.
Certainly, once, at the Middle Ages, existed in this fertile and pleasant valley, a castle  or tower and was from this strong home that comes a part of the aristocratic name of VALPAÇOS.
In Valpaços and on the outskirts there are a wide Antropologic heritage, including pre-historic monuments.
